Competency Modelling

Competency models can include both overall organisational competencies that drive the vision, as well as specific functional and technical competencies important for a particular job role. Well-developed models generally include one or more competencies drawn from the following three categories:

We can facilitate clients through our Assess Strategic Success Modeling Process (SSM) to develop a competency model. The SSM is a process by which an organisation, with the facilitation of an Ascentia consultant, can easily develop a targeted competency model for a position or group of positions. The development of the model is accomplished via a 1 ½ to 2 day workshop.

We will begin the workshop by discussing the strategic direction of the organisation and the important outcomes that the role must achieve. From this discussion we embark upon a rigorous interactive process to identify the 5-12 competencies (strategic and functional) that support the desired outcomes.

The competencies and behaviours are described in the language of the organisation and to fit the culture.

As a result of this process, the client has a well-defined competency model which can be applied to a competency-mapped Selection Report and Behavioural Interview Guide, a competency-mapped Developmental Report, a custom competency-based 360° Feedback Survey and a Performance Appraisal System.
